A 48-year-old woman, Bukola Abiodun, and six men have been dragged to a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State over alleged attempted murder and theft.

Others include Samuel Sunday, aged 52; Wahab Rahmon, 52; Yissa Suleiman, 46; Adam Yakubu, 32; Yahaya Usman, 29; and Jacob Isaiah, 40.

They were said to have stolen the sum of N925, 000 from one Gana Oseni after which they allegedly attempted to kill him.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Olusegun Elisha, told the court that the seven defendants and others now at large on February 3, at Kelebe area, Osogbo, did conspire among themselves to commit felony to wit: attempted murder, forcefully demanding, stealing and threatening people’s lives.

The charge against them read that “You, (defendants) on the same date, time and place, did unlawfully attempt to kill one Gana Oseni. That you did, with intent to steal, threatened to cause injury or detriment of any kind to him and also unlawfully demanded the sum of N925, 000 from one Gana Oseni.

“You did threaten the life of one Gana Oseni.”

Elisha said that the defendants committed offences contrary to Section 383 and punishable under sections 516, 320, 390(9) and 86 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

Counsels to the accused persons, Tunbosun Oladipupo and Mufutau Adediran, prayed the court to admit their clients to bail and assured the court that credible individuals would be provided to stand as sureties for them.

Chief Magistrate O. A. Ayilara granted them bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety each in the same amount.

He said that each of the sureties must either be a civil servant or a house owner resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

The case was adjourned till February 28 for mention.
