Yari diverts donations from Saudi Arabia, Zamfara govt committee alleges

A Verification Committee set up by the Zamfara State Government has uncovered unaccounted financial donations from Saudi Arabia for the building of a school in the state.

Chairman of the committee, Ahmed Zabarma, who disclosed this, said indications had emerged that former governor Abdulazeez Yari had collected handsome donations from the Saudi Arabian government to build a school.

According to him, findings have revealed that no single school was built from the Saudi Arabia’s donations.

He further stressed that the two special schools built were, however, financed by the state and Federal Government.

He said, “Those who know about the donation once advised the former governor to turn the newly built Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital into the school as a cover-up, which Yari did not heed.

“Whatever the case may be, Your Excellency, your administration should dig into this matter and ask for refund because with this scandal covered, we risk the anger of not getting any more support from our friends abroad, again.”

While receiving the report, Governor Bello Matawalle said the committee was not set up to witchhunt anybody, but to verify government assets and liabilities.

He commended the zeal and commitment of the committee and promised to peruse its report with a view to implementing its recommendations.
