The Ilana Omo Oodua, a Yoruba self determination group, on Wednesday, faulted the alleged plan by the Department of State Service to extradite Sunday Adeyemo, a.k.a Sunday Igboho from the Republic of Benin.
The security agency, on Tuesday, disclosed that the process of extraditing the Yoruba Nation agitator was ongoing.
The move by the secret security service, the group said, was a ploy to circumvent the N20billion fine that was awarded in favor of Igboho by the court.
It would be recalled that Igboho was arrested by the operatives of the Brigade Criminelle on July 19, 2021, while trying to travel through the Benin Republic airport following the raid on his Soka, Ibadan residence on July 1 by the DSS operatives.
At the inauguration of the Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide Elders Advisory Council in Ibadan, the spokesman of the group, Maxwell Adeleye, stated that it was untrue that the Nigerian government was planning Igboho’s extradition to the country.
Adeleye said, “They don’t have money to pay the fine and that is why they wanted to quashed the judgement. Also, the appeal for stay of execution that was filed by the DSS has not been granted by the court.”
The leader of the Ilana Omo Oodua, Prof. Banji Akintoye, said at the event that the creation of the Advisory Council was important to liaise with the traditional rulers and other stakeholders on way forward as the youth could not drive the course alone.
“We are ready to fight for the self determination of Yoruba Nation until we succeed. There are some things the elders can do that the youths cannot do. Of course, the youth are key towards the realization of the Yoruba Nation through protests, rallies, social media, and others but they also need the elders.”
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Elders Advisory Council, Alhaji Ali Oyedeji, has said that his team would engage critical stakeholders in Yorubaland to key into the Yoruba redemptive agenda.
