Youth empowerment, panacea to Nigeria’s problems – Utomi

Apparently worried by the high rate of unemployment in the country, a leading economic expert, Professor Pat Utomi, has called on the Federal Government to embrace youth empowerment as panacea to the lingering economic problem.

Utomi spoke at the national launch of YouthCan!, an initiative by the SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria in Lagos.

He argued that for Nigeria’s parlous economy to gain balance, it should be driven and taken over by knowledgeable youths.

“We need to invest more in the youths in this country, if we care about tomorrow. Human capital cannot be overemphasized in any economy and as such, our youths in this country are our strength, which the Federal Government should invest in,” Utomi said.

The professor of Political Economy also lauded the efforts of the SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria to reduce the unemployment scourge in which over 60 per cent of youths in Nigeria have found themselves.
