Some heavily armed youths suspected to be indigenes of Iwo, a town in Osun State, on Wednesday threw caution to the wind as they attacked their traditional ruler, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Adewale Akanbi, while he was conferring a chieftaincy title on a prominent indigene of the land.
Eyewitness account revealed that the hoodlums, armed with guns, Â charms and missiles, stormed the venue of the installation and started hurling stones at the monarch.
Some policemen attached to the monarch were said to have shielded him while one of the policemen, Sergeant Ikuesan Taiwo, was said to have sustained injury on his head after being hit with a weapon.
It was gathered that the policemen apprehended one of the miscreants while others fled the scene after launching the attack.
The hoodlums were said to have insisted that the monarch should not install one Prince Taofeeq Adedimeji Tadese as the pioneer Sooko of Else Royal House of Adagunodo ruling house in the town, but the king dismissed their threats and went ahead with the installation.
The monarch had recently stripped Chief Abiola Ogundokun of his chieftaincy titles and threatened that he (Oba Akanbi) would replace him with other people.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Folasade Odoro could not be reached when contacted on the telephone as her line was not going through.
