Yuletide: Police ban Nigerians from all forms of annual street carnivals

To ensure serene environment and protection of lives and property of residents before, during and after the Christmas and New Year seasons, Osun State Police Command has banned Nigerians, especially youths from holding street carnival.

The command also informed the general public that the ban on the use of fireworks/crackers (knockouts, bangers and other explosives) be it indoor or outdoor is still in force.

“Members of the public are therefore warned to desist from selling, buying and making use of these items especially during this yuletide season as class of low explosive pyrotechnic devices/fireworks pose risks of causing injury to people and damage to properties.

“This could also cause distraction that may constitute a threat to the security of members of the public most especially in residential areas, worship, events, relaxation and recreation centres and motor parks.

“In the same vein, Police Command is using this medium to advise members of the public, especially the youths that Annual Street Carnivals are prohibited.

“The streets carnival will not be tolerated in whatever form or guise. Therefore, all organizers of carnivals are enjoined to hire halls or use gated compounds to carryout/celebrate their festival.

“This warning becomes imperative as miscreants/hoodlums may capitalize on the yuletide to carry out their nefarious activities under the guise of celebration,” a statement issued on Tuesday by Yemisi Opalola, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command said.

The Police Command therefore admonished parents, guardians, religious leaders and ward heads to check their children, wards and followers to strictly adhere to the above advice as violators would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
