Zamfara bakery operators beg FG to intervene in price of bread ingredients

Zamfara State Confectionary and Bread Sellers Association have appealed to the Federal Government to intervene over a hike in the price of flour and other ingredients for bread making in the state and country at large.

The vice chairman of Zamfara State Chamber of Commerce, Mine and Agriculture, Habibu Alfijir who is also the secretary of Alfijir Bread and Confectionary said the hike in the prices of bread-making ingredients has forced many bakery houses to shut down in the state.

“The hike in prices of sugar, flour and other ingredients has contributed to the relative increase in the price of bread in the state,” he said.

Speaking with journalists on Saturday in Gusau Zamfara State, Alfijir lamented the hike in the prices of the bread making commodities, while calling for urgent intervention by the Federal Government to salvage their business.

“We the Zamfara State bakery and bread sellers have cried out, we need urgent government intervention particularly the issue of subsidy where we can only buy dollars now from outside the Central Bank,” he lamented.

He noted that the prices of the commodities have continued to increase, adding that the present leadership of Zamfara Chamber of Commerce, Mine and Agriculture under the chairmanship of Hassan Buhari Tafidan Maradun has made a giant stride toward assisting bakery houses in the state.

He therefore appealed to the Federal and state governments to support the efforts of the Zamfara Chamber of Commerce, Mine and Agriculture through assistance to members of his association to enable them sustain their businesses before it’s too late.
