Residents accuse female police inspector of aiding crime, other malpractices

Residents of Ajeromi Ifelodun in Lagos State have accused a female police officer attached to the police division in the area, Inspector Ayo Lolade, of collecting bribe and engaging in other malpractices.

According to them, the female police officer had allegedly been indulging in compromising different cases involving child abuse, and human rights abuse issues, among others.

Some of the residents of the area told our correspondent that several cases involving child abuse and other human rights violations had allegedly been swept under the carpet by the police officer after collecting bribe.

Those people lied against me. May God punish them! I don’t indulge in such dubious acts… It was a case of mistaken identity

A resident, Segun Olosunde, alleged, “Inspector Ayo Lolade, a.k.a Iron Lady, has been messing up cases, ranging from child abuse cases to human rights violation issues. We just got a report this evening regarding how she tried to protect a couple detained for perpetrating domestic violence against an 11-year-old girl about a month ago.”

Olosunde alleged that the female police officer collected N20,000 bribe from the couple to cover up the crime.

Another resident, who simply identified herself as Tolu, said, “It appears the new DPO is unaware of all the atrocities being committed by this woman called Ayo Lolade .ak.a iron lady.”

Babawale Femi said, “Ajeromi Ifelodun Police Station has no good reputation, because Ayo is always extorting money from suspects at every opportunity she has.”

Some staff at the General Hospital in Ajeromi Ifelodun also accused Inspector Lolade of “killing” the various cases of child abuse referred to the police station from the hospital.

Our correspondent gathered that the police officer was once transferred out of the station, but found her way back after a short while.

When contacted, Inspector Lolade denied all the allegations leveled against her by the residents of the area.

“Those people lied against me. May God punish them! I don’t indulge in such dubious acts,” she said.

Regarding the couple she allegedly shielded from prosecution for child abuse after collecting N20,000 bribe from them, Lolade said, “I was not the one that handled the case. It was a case of mistaken identity. My DPO knew about the case and we have rectified it.”

But a Lagos-based Non-Governmental Organisation, Child Protection Network, vowed to petition the police authorities in the state regarding the allegations against the female officer.

“We will do our findings on the several complaints against the female police officer and if they turn out to be true, we will take the necessary steps to reach out to the police authorities in the state,” the State Coordinator of CPN, Mrs. Ngozi Okoro, said.
