2019: Jegede moves to clinch mega party’s senatorial ticket

  • Secretly seeks Tinubu’s support

Following his defeat during last year’s governorship election in Ondo State, the Peoples Democratic Party standard bearer, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, may have begun secret moves to align with the forces behind the proposed mega party.

Jegede is said to be re-strategising to strengthen his alliance with the proposed mega party by reaching out to the embattled National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, believed to be one of the major promoters of the speculated new political platform.

Our correspondent gathered that the current moves by Jegede were not unconnected with his plans to clinch the Ondo Central senatorial ticket on the platform of the proposed mega party in 2019.

According to a source close to Jegede’s camp, “As you know that since the controversial election, which didn’t favour us, has come and gone, we have decided to restrategise to strengthen our political plans. And as I talk to you, Jegede is in talks with Tinubu in respect of the mega party against 2019.

We all know that elections are coming in 2019, and we need to start preparing ahead, and because of this, plans are in the pipeline to make sure that we are favoured in 2019, when we will be seen again.”

We have decided to restrategise to strengthen our political plans

One of the supporters of the PDP governorship candidate from Ondo State, Tajudeen Kamardeen, also confirmed that Jegede might consider taking a shot at the senatorial position in 2019.

The quest for the senatorial position, Kamardeen said, might have informed Jegede’s decision to align with a formidable team that would assist him to easily realise his dream.

“Of course, we also have the speculations that our man, Jegede is considering mega party and we support him. He still remains our man, despite what happened in the last governorship election, and wherever he goes, we will support him.

Moreover, I personally support his moves for the mega party because as it is, we know what will happen in this state when Akeredolu comes in. I don’t see him working in the interest of Ondo citizens but that of the people who made him the governor.

So, come rain or shine, we are strongly behind Jegede because we trust him more than any other person. But the spokesperson for the PDP governorship candidate, Kayode Fasua, said that the report about Jegede’s senatorial ambition on the platform of the proposed mega party remained mere speculation.

“That will definitely be a common speculation by people. But I can tell you that as we talk, Eyitayo Jegede does not have such a plan in his agenda, while we don’t know what the future holds for us,” Fasua Said.
