A 30-year-old man, Goddey Inyama, has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Apapa, Lagos, for having carnal knowledge of a 10-year-old girl.
The accused person was arrested by policemen attached to the Layeni Police Station, Ajegunle, after he allegedly penetrated both the anus and private part of the minor.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Ejemli Augustine, told the court that the accused person “did unlawfully and sexually touch one Raimot Muyideen ‘f’, aged 10 years old, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 263 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
The police in the second count said the accused person “did penetrate sexually the anus, vagina or any other opening in the body of one Raimot Muyideen ‘f’, aged 10 years old, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
The prosecutor also told the court that the accused person “did have sexual intercourse with one Raimot Muyideen ‘f’, aged 10 years old, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges.
When the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. M. Ajayi, asked the accused person: “Are you guilty or not guilty?”
The accused person shook his head and replied: “My lord, I am not guilty.”
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M. O. Ajayi, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N500, 000, with two sureties, one of who must be his blood relation and who is not less than a Grade Level 14.
