My husband planned to use our only child for money ritual, housewife tells court

  • She’s troublesome, promiscuous – Hubby

house wife, Kudirat Raufu, has told a Customary Court, sitting in Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State, how her husband, Musifiu Raufu, a butcher, allegedly planned to use their first son for money ritual.

Kudirat told the court that Musifiu had insisted that she bathed their son with a black soap.

The mother of three, who was dragged before the court by her husband in a suit no: CV/658/2018, explained to the court that her husband beat her to the extent that her eyes got swollen because she refused to use the black soap to bath their only son, Khaleed.

She further told the court that she refused her husband’s directive concerning their only child, because she suspected that her husband might want to use the boy for money ritual, because he had five other wives, who bore him many children.

The woman, who also told the court that she was fed-up with the marriage, accused her husband of not being responsible for their children’s school fees and upkeep.

The estranged wife also said that her husband was fond of beating her at the slightest provocation, saying that the inability of her husband to be responsible for the upkeep of his five other wives and their children had resulted in two of the women running away.

She said: “I know his aim was to use the boy for money ritual since he knows he has other wives who have many children for him.

“He beats me whenever he is angry and refuses to pay my children’s school fees or give them their feeding allowance. One of his wives told me he doesn’t cater for her children, and that I should find a way to be catering for my own too. And because of this habit of not being responsible, two of his wives left him.”

In his defense, Musifiu denied all that his wife told the court, saying they were mere lies.

The butcher accused his wife of being promiscuous and fond of fomenting troubles, as well as cursing his mother whenever she tried to settle a disagreement between them.

He added that Kudirat, who moved out of his house since December last year, had always accosted him in public places to harass him and at one time, even attempted to break the windscreen of his car.

The husband, therefore, prayed the court to dissolve their 11-year-old marriage on the grounds of frequent fighting, abusing and cursing him, lack of rest of mind and no respect as well as threat to his life.

“All that my wife was saying are blatant lies. I did not give her black soap to bath my child for money ritual. She is very troublesome, promiscuous and always abusing my mother.

“She left my house since December, last year, and any time she sees me, she always foments trouble with me,” he said.

The President of the court, Mrs. O. O. Sam-Obaleye, however, granted the prayers of the husband and dissolved their marriage.

Sam-Obaleye ordered the husband to be responsible for the children’s school fees and to pay N10,000 monthly for their upkeep.
