859,480 pupils to get free daily meal in Niger

The Federal Government has earmarked the sum of N1.2 billion to be expended on providing lunch on a daily basis to 859,480 pupils in public schools in Niger State, under its School Feeding Programme.
The Manager, School Feeding Project, Attahiru Abubakar, disclosed this in Minna during a training workshop for the cooks to be engaged for the project.
According to him, the project is expected to take off on September 25, 2017, in all the 3, 000 public schools across the 25 local government areas of the state.
He explained that N70 would be spent on each child, daily, noting that the pupils would be fed once a day in an effort to improve their nutrition.
Abubakar further said, so far, a total of 7,170 vendors had applied for the project, saying that to ensure success of the programme, an adequate monitoring and evaluation team would be involved in its implementation.
