Nasarawa shuts more commercial banks’ branches

The Nasarawa State Internal Revenue Service has shut down another commercial bank, Unity Bank Plc, for hoarding information on personal income tax of its customers.
Recently, the revenue service had sealed branches of First City Monument Bank Plc and Diamond Bank Plc across the state for not allowing its consultants to have access to their documents in order to analyse information on the personal income tax of their customers.
The revenue generating outfit of the state had last Monday sealed Unity Bank for the same reason, triggering public accusations of connivance by the board.
A financial analyst, who did not want his name in print, accused the board of connivance to defraud the state of its share of the percentage of the personal income tax being deducted.
The analyst wondered why it took the board many years to begin to ask banks about their customers’ information on Personal Income Tax.
He said, “We were shocked by the statement credited to the chairman of the board that, since 1999, the board had not asked for this information until now.
