Again, DSS report disqualifies Magu

The Senate has yet again disqualified the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission today, Wednesday, March 15.

Magu was disqualified after the senators voted against his confirmation

Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West, had announced a fresh security report from the Department of State Services, which did not clear the nominee.

He stated that the secret service has written another letter to the legislature to disqualify the acting EFCC chairman.

The lawmakers said the anti-graft agency boss “failed integrity test.”

Melaye, during the confirmation hearing for Magu, said the letter was sent to through the clerk to the Senate on Wednesday

Recall that the Senate had rejected Magu’s nomination in December after the DSS indicted him in a report.

The anti-graft agency acting boss was accused of corruption ‎and “gross violation of human rights.” He was also alleged to be in possession “of undeclared pieces of property.”

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had forwarded Magu’s name to the Senate in June 2016, for confirmation. as the substantive chairman of the anti-graft agency.

After denying all the allegations, President Buhari re-nominated him in January.

Magu was appointed in November 2015, following the sack of his predecessor, Ibrahim Lamorde.
