A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, and former member of the House of Representatives, Kolawole Babatunde, has revealed that APC political stakeholders in Akokoland have resolved on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as a consensus candidate, urging other contestants to stand down ahead of Saturday’s primary election.
Babatunde, popularly known as Amaechi, who is a State Director of the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers Independent Council in a chat with newsmen at Ifira, Akoko South-East during a house-to-house campaign, said after several consultations, the APC leaders in the areas had settled for Aiyedatiwa’s candidature.
“While other contestants have the right to vye along with Mr. Governor, we also reasoned that evident performance should not be downplayed in a contest pitching us against opposition political parties.
“Aiyedatiwa has in less than 100 days in office, performed so well as if he had spent three years in the saddle as can be confirmed from numerous development projects and human empowerment embarkedupon so far.
“Consider the peaceful and chummy atmosphere across the state arising from the fact that the governor is not owing workers’ salary and that he is even paying palliatives to civil servants to cushion the effects of economic hardship.
“Again, he has mobilised virtually all contractors back to site and he is awarding fresh contracts bearing the various peculiarities of different communities, down to the grassroots.
“To cap it all, Governor Aiyedatiwa recently set aside over N2 billion to fend for peasant farmers, petty traders and other entrepreneurs in need of government support, in terms of soft loans and requisite inputs,” Babatunde applauded.
He added that the APC stakeholders in Akokoland took the position after due consultation with various interest groups and other opinion moulders within the party.
Besides, he said Governor Aiyedatiwa comes with an olive branch to receive all aspirants wishing to set aside their ambition for the unity of the party, and the need for the continuity of the various good works he had initiated.
“The truth of the matter is that, nobody is a loser once there is consensus, as we all have the cutting edge, moving on with a united house in this campaign, ” he stressed.
