APC Publicity Secretary alleges threat to life

head of the May 5, 2019 gubernatorial primary of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, the party’s state publicity secretary, Hon. Taiwo Olatubosun, has alleged that a chieftain of the party, believed to be a leader of political thugs for one of the governorship aspirants, recently threatened to kill him.

Olatubosun, who is a former Deputy Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, said he was now scared for his life on account of the death threat.

In a statement made available to The Point, the ex-lawmaker alleged that the party chieftain, widely known as Mentilo, had been contracted to assassinate him, noting that he could not fathom what he had done wrong to deserve death.

He said Mentilo, an erstwhile chairman of a drivers’ union in the state, had aggressively accosted him at an APC public function, muttering some words in Yoruba language, which translated to mean that he would be sending ‘his boys’ to assassinate
him.

He quoted Mentilo as saying, “I will kill you like others who had been killed in politics for nothing. You are an ingrate for not following and supporting (a particular aspirant) who allocated the position of Publicity Secretary of the party to you. (He) put you in this position and empowered you. You and others will pay the supreme price if you do not support
(him).”

Olatunbosun stated that this outburst and unwarranted threat to his life were made with some principal officers of APC State Working Committee in attendance. He revealed that given the antecedent of the former chairman of the drivers’ union, the threat to his life should not be taken with
levity.

He, therefore, called on the security agencies in Ekiti State, particularly the Nigeria Police, to thoroughly investigate the matter with a view to nipping the death threat in the bud, and also, forestalling the breakdown of law and order in the state.
