The ruling All Progressives Congress has renamed its national secretariat at Blantyre Street, Wuse 2, Abuja, ‘Buhari House,’ after President Muhammadu Buhari.

This came as the party, on Friday, extended the tenure of its Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee under the Chairmanship of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, following President Buhari’s approval.

The approval was granted after detailed consideration of the Progress Report, the schedule of outstanding activities with regards to Congresses, the National Convention and the forthcoming Anambra Governorship election.

President Buhari also approved the timetable for APC ward, local government and state congresses with ward congresses slated for 24th July, to be followed by local government congresses on 14th August, and state congresses on 18th September.

Buni, on Friday, presented a summary of the Committee’s progress report to the President at the State House, Abuja.

With Buni on the occasion were other CECPC members, including governors Adegboyega Oyetola, Abubakar Sani Bello, Senator Ken Nnamani, Senator Abubakar Yusuf, Akinyemi Olaide, Mrs. Stella Oketete and Dr. James Lulu.

Others are Chief David Lyon, Abba Ali, Prof. Tahir Mamman, Ismail Ahmed and the committee’s National Secretary, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe.

It is noteworthy that at its last meeting, the National Executive Committee conferred on the CECPC the power of the National Convention which is in line with powers provided in Article 13.3 of the party’s Constitution.

However, the Committee’s national chairman had the president’s approval to review the timeline available to the CECPC.

By the CECPC decision, the tenure of the caretaker committees at the ward, local government, state and national level will end immediately elections are held at their respective levels with its officers taking oath of office terminating with the National Convention.

The Committee chairman had informed the President that the CECPC had, during the period under review, led the party to contest in several elections and by-elections with overall success rate of 95 per cent.

On the peace and reconciliation efforts, Buni said the Committee commenced its assignment on a desire to foster genuine reconciliation by giving all issues and every aggrieved member fair hearing and placing party interests above individual’s.
