Chelsea to raise funds to capture Osimhen

Premier League giants Chelsea reportedly need to get rid of some players in order to raise funds for the potential signing of Nigeria’s dare-devil striker Victor Osimhen in the summer.

The Blues have been woeful in attack this term and to address the issue, they are in the market for a genuine center forward, with Osimhen one of the options the recruitment team is looking at.

Under the new ownership of Todd Boehly, Chelsea have spent £600million in two transfer windows, and to remain compliant with Financial Fair Play regulations, they may be forced to sell some players.

Chelsea have attempted to circumvent the Financial Fair Play regulations by signing players on long term contracts, which spreads the cost of the players.

According to Football Insider, Financial Fair Play regulations could make a deal for Osimhen financially impossible unless they sell some players to fund their transfer kitty.

Per the report, Chelsea have not dropped out of the race for the Napoli striker and will reignite their bid if some players are offloaded in the summer.

The Blues’ missing out on the Champions League next season could prove a stumbling block to the deal, considering that their rivals for the signature of the forward, namely Manchester United, PSG and Bayern Munich, are set to feature in the competition.

Only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (32), Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane (23) and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe (22) have scored more goals than Osimhen (21) in the top five European Leagues this season.
