Fear has gripped residents of Edo State as the health of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon Frank Okiye, is said to have deteriorated.

Government House sources say Okiye, who was said to be receiving treatment at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, showed symptoms that the facility could no longer cope with, necessitating his transfer to seek further medical attention.

As at the time of filing this report, Speaker Okiye was being taken out of Benin to Irrua Specialist Hospital, Irrua, where he’s expected to get better attention.

Meanwhile, another confirmed case of coronavirus infection in Edo State may be announced any moment from now to bring the number to two in the state.

The newest case, it was learnt, is of a female returnee from Europe, who reportedly manifested signs and symptoms of the Covid-19 in Benin City.

The woman was said to have reported at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, where she is currently being examined and managed.
