The Nigeria High Commission’s football team in the United Kingdom has won this year’s Diplomatic Cup competition. The Nigerian team thrashed their Spanish counterpart 3-0 to lift the trophy.

Receiving the Cup from the Captain of the team, High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola, praised their efforts for doing the country proud. He assured them that the mission would always appreciate their contribution to making Nigeria great.

He told the team, made up of coaches and players, that he would hand over the trophy to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who would in turn, hand it over to the President.

“I will present this Cup to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who will in turn present it to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari,” Ishola said.

He promised the players and coaches that they would be invited to the Residence where they would interact at a more informal level, assuring them that he was a man of his words, which got him rapturous applause from the players and coaches.

“We are going to invite you later to the Residence and we will give you a date. But you can be sure it would be very soon. I am a man of my words. I am ‘talk and do’. So, you will come to the Residence, we will eat together, and if you have any ideas, we will look at it together. But for now, just know that you have done Nigeria proud and we have to show you appreciation. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he concluded.

Ambassador Sarafa was recently posted to the UK and he has already established himself as a good administrator, who is representing the country very well.
