Filling station attendant dragged to court for stealing

The Osun State Police Command has arraigned a 42-year-old-man, Dairo Muideen, for allegedly stealing proceeds from the sales of petroleum products belonging to his employer.

Muideen, a petrol pump attendant at Ben-Waki Petroleum Company, Ede, was accused of falsifying the account of the filling station and stealing the sum of N629, 359, being the amount realised from sale of fuel.

The defendant was said to have committed the offence between December 2020 and March 2021 at the filling station located in Ede.

The charge against him read that “You, Dairo Muideen, between the month of December, 2020 and 24th day of March, 2021 at Ben-Waki Petroleum Company, Ede, in the Ede Magisterial District, did fraudulently falsify the account of Ben-Waki Petroleum Company and steal the sum of N629, 359, 00 being money realised from sales of petroleum products, property of Kolawole Kehinde, owner of Ben-Waki Global Resources Limited.”

Police prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Adepoju, informed the court that Muideen committed offences contrary to Section 383(1) and punishable under Section 390(6)(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The defendant, who had no legal representation, pleaded not guilty to the one-count-charge preferred against him.

Magistrate D. Ajiboye granted the accused person bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in the same amount.

One of the sureties, Ajiboye said, must be a Grade Level 14 civil servant while the other must be a blood relation of the defendant with landed property in the state.

The defendant was taken to Ilesa Correctional Centre for failing to meet the bail conditions.

The matter was adjourned till April 29 for hearing.
