Five women, man docked over prostitution

Policemen attached to Kirikiri Police Station in the Lagos State Police Command have arraigned five women and a man at a Magistrate court sitting in Apapa over allegation of prostitution.

The accused persons – Blessing Gabriel, Jennifer Godwin, Favour Okorie, Caroline Johnson, Janet Felix (all females); and Imeh Joseph (male); were brought to court by the Investigative Police Officer, Inspector Solomon
Ogugbo.

The IPO said they were arrested in connection with the offence at about 11:00hours at Baby Fly Hotel, Kirikiri, Apapa.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the accused women were caught persuading men for prostitution.

The charge read that the accused persons “were found loitering and persistently importuning and soliciting persons for the purpose of prostitution and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168 (i) (ii) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria,
2015.”

It added that “Imeh Joseph, being a staff of Baby Fly Hotel, was found to exercise influence over the movements of prostitutes in such a manner to show that you are airing prostitution and fraudulently took them away without their parents’ consent and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168 (i) (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr O.S. Abioye, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties that are gainfully employed who must be blood relations with evidences of tax payment.
