Granny accuses policemen of covering up 3-yr-old grand-daughter’s defilement

…says I’ve been extorted several times by officers

A grand-mother, Mrs. Rachael Adeosun, has accused some police officers attached to the Ikotun Police Division, Lagos, of attempts to cover up the alleged defilement of her three-year-old grand-daughter.

Adeosun alleged that some policemen in the Ikotun Division had been compromised in their handling of the criminal matter.

Our correspondent gathered that the 62-year-old suspect allegedly defiled the three-year-old girl in her grand-mother’s apartment.

The grand-mother, who confirmed the incident, said, “All my efforts to get justice have been abortive. The police officers at Ikotun have just been collecting money from me. They also requested several other things, which I cannot afford, and they released the suspect. Government should help me over this matter.”

A child rights activist, Ebenezer Omejalile told our correspondent, “This case has been at Ikotun Police Station since January 2020. Currently, the perpetrator is let loose and the IPO told survivor’s elderly grandmother to come back when she had money to pursue the case.

“The woman said that several times the IPO had collected N2, 000 and N1,000 from her, saying they needed to hire a Black Maria to convey the suspect to court. The woman doesn’t have money but she wants justice.”

The police authorities in Lagos, it was learnt, have stepped in to investigate the case of defilement as well as the allegations against policemen at Ikotun Division.

But the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkanah, could not be reached for comments on the matter as at press time.
