Two of the three minors were said to have died, while one of them survived the tragedy.

A witness, Tukur Suleiman, said that the kids were trying to cross the bridge with their bicycles when the accident occurred.

Suleiman said, “We were seated not far from the bridge after the heavy rain on Tuesday. The boys came to the foot of the bridge on their bicycles, but just as they climbed the bridge, it collapsed.

“They fell into the canal. They were heard crying for help, so we mobilised and tried to rescue them. We later rescued two of them. One had already died. The third boy had yet to be found. We searched for him everywhere in the canal but we could not find him, dead or alive.”
