The Police in Kano State have reportedly arrested a 32-year-old lady, Hassana Abubakar, from Bauchi State, for allegedly being a member of a notorious syndicate that specialised in stealing babies.

Abubakar, with other members of her suspected criminal ring (at large), were said to be responsible for child theft at general hospitals in Kano.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspect was apprehended within the premises of the Muritala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano by members of the public who became curious of her movements.
It was alleged that Hassana, when arrested, dressed like a health worker.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kano State Command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed that Hassana was already in police net.

According to him, the command received an emergency call from MMHS, “informing us that an angry mob was about to lynch a woman.

“The CP, Kano State Command, Sumaila Dikko, dispatched a team of police officers, led by DSP Bala Mohammed, who is the DPO Kofar Wambai Division, to the place.

“We are not satisfied with her explanation. We have started investigating her. She is now at the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.”

The suspect, in an interview with The Point at the state police headquarters, Bompai, said, “You see, I came to Kano to work as a health worker posted to AKTH. My identity card and medical qualifications all got burnt.

“I called my brother who works with MMHS to help me with my registration number. When I got here, I called him, his number was no longer reachable. Some women approached me for medical help; I told them I was from Bauchi, that my credentials as a health worker were not with me here in Kano.”

The police urged the residents of the state to remain vigilant in view of the activities of criminal elements on the prowl in the society.

Warning that jungle justice should not be meted to anybody under any guise, the PPRO said that those with suspicious movements should be reported at the nearest police station for immediate action.
