Jubilation as INEC declares Adeleke winner of Osun governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday declared Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner of the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday.

The Chief Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos, Prof Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe announced Adeleke winner after polling 403,371 votes across the state.

Adeleke defeated the incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the ruling All Progressives Congress who polled 375,027 votes.

Ogundipe, under heavy security presence declared Adeleke as the Governor-elect.

Adeleke won 17 of the 30 Local Government Areas in the state.

His closest rival, Oyetola, however, won in the remaining 13 LGAs.

Ogundipe said, “The election was contested, the candidates received the following votes, Ogunbiyi 4515, Awojide Peter Segun, AAC, 2148, Kehinde Nurudeen Olumuyiwa Atanda, ADP, 1014, Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola, APC, 375027, Awoyemi Oluwatayo Lukman, APC, 1222, Adebayo Adeolu Elisha, APP, 601, Adeleke Adesoji Masilo Aderemi Adedapo, Boot Party, 374, Yusuff Sulaiman Lasun, 2729, Rasaq Oyelami Saliu, NNPP, 393, Abede Adetona Samuel, NRN, 777, Adeleke Ademola Jackson Nurudeen, PDP, 403,371, Ayowole Olubusuyi Adedeji, 1007, Omigbodun Oyegoke Akinrinola, SDP, 515, Ademola Bayonle Adeseye, YPP, 1303, Adesoye John, ZLP, 364.

“I declare that Adeleke on behalf of the Chairman of INEC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, he is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
