LASTMA warns truck drivers against roadside parking

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, on Thursday, warned truck drivers against parking on roadsides in the state.

LASTMA General Manager, Bakare Oki, gave the warning during a courtesy visit of the management of Viju Industries Nigeria Limited to the agency’s office in Oshodi, Lagos.

LASTMA’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.

During the meeting, Oki highlighted the ongoing challenge of traffic congestion in Lagos, spurred by the city’s daily influx of people.

“Addressing the issue of illegal parking, Mr. Bakare Oki urged Viju Industries Nigeria Limited to address the parking of their trucks on Oba Akran Avenue, which disrupts traffic flow and inconveniences motorists.

“Moreover, he stressed the importance of training drivers to adapt to evolving traffic management technologies, such as the new Traffic Management Solutions devices provided by the government to LASTMA operatives,” the statement said.

In response, the Manager of Human Resources at Viju Industries, Jonathan Ogbone, expressed the company’s commitment to fostering a positive relationship with LASTMA.

“He acknowledged LASTMA’s enforcement efforts to impound illegally parked trucks, clarifying that not all trucks around their company premises belong to Viju Industries,” the statement said.

Last year, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Sola Giwa, stated how the government officials impounded several trucks for illegal parking on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
