LP ascribes Otti’s victory in Abia gov election to God

  • Thanks resolute Abians

BY BENEDICT NWACHUKWU, ABUJA

Spokesman of the Labour Party Campaign Council, Yunusa Tanko, has attributed the just announced victory of the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Abia State, Alex Otti, to God’s handiwork. This is as he commended the resilient people of Abia for remaining resolute in ensuring that their mandate was not stolen.

Tanko, in a telephone conversation with The Point, said “But for God the mandate would have been stolen and, therefore, the party remains appreciative to the Almighty God and equally to the good people of Abia who proved their love for our party, confirming that their massive voting for our presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is not a fluke.”

He further stated that the party is hopefully waiting for the INEC declaration of Enugu state and believing that the electoral body will not allow itself to be used to snatch the people’s mandate.

Otti has just been declared the winner of the Abia State governorship election on Wednesday evening following a protracted collation that was even suspended at a point by the Independent National Electoral Commission. With the eventual declaration of the results of the controversial Obingwa Local Government Area results, however, Otti emerged winner.

After the conclusion of the collation of the outstanding results of the election, the Peoples Democratic Party scored 9,962 votes and while the Labour Party, 3,776 votes in the LGA.

Consequently, the LP won in 10 LGAs, the PDP in six LGAs, and the Young Peoples Party in one LGA.

Otti polled a total of 172,386 to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the PDP who scored 88,174.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Nnenna Oti, declared the LP candidate the winner at the INEC headquarters in Umuahia, the state capital.
