One Abubakar Sheka has reportedly dragged his wife, Hajiya Hafsat, before a Shariah court sitting in Hotoro, Kano State.

The plaintiff accused his wife of engaging in polyandry by acting as wife to another man.

The plaintiff alleged that whereas he was legally married to Hafsat, his estranged wife went ahead to marry another man.

The accused person, however, denied the allegation against her, saying that hitherto, Sheka issued her a divorce letter.

Hafsat further told the court that the divorce letter issued to her got lost when she travelled to Niger Republic.

The accused person, however, produced two witnesses who confirmed her claim. In their evidences, the duo said that they were bosom friends to the man.

According to them, Sheka had once told them that he had divorced the lady.

The presiding judge, Kadi Abba Abdullahi Waya, dismissed the allegation that the woman was engaging in polyandry.

The court admitted, as legal, the oral divorce pronouncements that were made and upheld her marriage to the new man.
