Man drugs, defiles 12-year-old daughter in Lagos

A man, Mathew Emmanuel, has been arrested by the police for drugging and defiling his 12-year-old daughter, Ada, at the Oworonshoki area of Lagos.
Our correspondent gathered that Emmanuel, who resides at 35, Akewusola Street, Oworonshoki, Lagos, had been having unlawful carnal knowledge of his daughter, who is a primary five pupil, in the past one year.
Findings revealed that the young victim, who could no longer bear the pain inflicted on her by her father due to the illicit act, reported the case to a member of staff in her
school.
According to a source, Ada, had alleged that her father, Matthew, usually drugged her whenever he was about to have sex with her.
The suspect, who is in his late 30s, had long sent the mother of the victim away from their home and she’s now said to be living in Abuja with another man.
A resident of the area, Lateef Kunle, who spoke with our correspondent, said, “Ada, was becoming much uncomfortable with the illicit affair, and reported the incident to one of the non-teaching staff at her school, who was her confidant.”
In her confessional statement, Ada said, “My father always comes to me every night, when we have all slept and have sex with me. He used to put something in water for me to drink before he starts having sex with me, and I won’t know what I’m doing again.”
It was also learnt that he medical examinations conducted on the victim at the Mirabel Health Centre of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, confirmed that the minor had been sexually abused.
Efforts by the school authorities and some activists led to the arrest of Ada’s father.
Our correspondent also learnt from another resident, John Kuku, that “Ada and her younger brother, Ose Emmanuel, 8, were taken away from home to the state’s social home, after notifying the Oworonshoki Police Division of the
development.”
Kuku said, “Their father, Emmanuel, who is a commercial motorcycle operator, apparently got worried about the disappearance of his children, when he got home later that day and could not find
them.
“He, however, went to the police division the following morning to report the disappearance of his two kids. He was told that his children were at the state’s social home, and he swiftly went there and found them.
“He was detained at the home for questioning over the allegations, which he denied. He denied the allegations. Of course, what do you expect from such a person; they will never own up. He said how could he have done such a thing to his daughter.”
But the father-of-two was subsequently detained and charged to the Ogudu Magistrate Court, where he was asked to be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons.
Meanwhile, his two children have been taken into custody by the state’s Ministry of Youth and Social Development.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Chike Oti, confirmed the incident, saying, “The suspect is already facing the law over the
case”.
