The Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna State, has confirmed reports of an attack by bandits on the facility in which two officers were killed and another one abducted by the marauding criminals.

The Spokesman for the academy, Major Bashir Jajira in a statement on Tuesday, confirmed that the incident occurred in the early hours of the day.

“The security architecture of the Nigerian Defence Academy was compromised early this morning by unknown gunmen,” Jajira said in the statement.

“We lost two personnel and one was abducted.”

The bandits were said to have arrived the NDA in a vehicle and succeeded in passing through the security gate into the academy, disguised in military uniforms.

On entering, they proceeded to the officers’ quarters where they began to shoot sporadically and in the process, killed two officers. The victims were identified as a Major and a Squadron Leader whose names were not given. The bandits subsequently took another Major captive and made a hasty getaway through a nearby bush inside the academy.

The NDA Quick Response Team which was alerted by the sounds of gunfire got there a little too late as the bandits were already gone with the victim.

However, a joint team of security operatives has been unleashed on the trail of the bandits with a view to arresting them and rescuing the seized officer.
