OBJ’s letter: Resign now, PPN tells Buhari

Following a recent call by former President Olusegun Obasanjo on President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019, the Peoples Party of Nigeria has urged Buhari to resign immediately from office.

National Chairman, PPN, Mr. Rasak Eyiowuawi, who spoke with our correspondent at the party’s mid-term convention in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said that by seeking re-election next year, Buhari would have effectively proved his alleged insensitivity to the plight of suffering Nigerians.

Eyiowuawi, who berated Buhari for his seeming inaction about the killings allegedly perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen in Benue State, advised the President to salvage the country by emulating former president Goodluck Jonathan, who handed over power to him peacefully in 2015, by resigning his position now.

He said, “By now, he should know he must step aside. In a good clime or in the right clime, by now, he should have written his resignation letter. I expect him to resign rather than allowing Nigeria to go back to its old ways.

“There is nepotism in his appointments, there is nepotism in his relation with fellow human beings, there is nepotism in securing the lives of the citizens of Nigeria. So, do we say we have a nation? Buhari’s administration is totally nepotistic.”

The PPN national chairman added that the nation would be doomed should Buhari refuse to heed the former president’s warning that he should perish the idea of having a second term come 2019.

“Obasanjo is right. What Obasanjo said in the open letter are all facts. We all know that we are shying away from doom. If we are not careful, by 2019, if the right things are not done, there won’t be a Nigeria again. I think Obasanjo is on point. Nigeria is going into disarray and it needs immediate intervention,” he said.

Eyiowuawi accused the Buhari administration of foisting hardship on Nigerians, saying that it was high time Nigerians voted him out of power in the next presidential election.

He said, “When he was coming, he told us that petroleum would be sold for, I think N40 per litre. Rather than coming down, it is going up. How much is a bag of rice sold now? Even the corruption that he said he wanted to fight, what is happening? Nothing.

“Nigeria is going into disarray, killings here, bombings there, death here, famine there. No money; you can’t even pay salary. Workers are being owed 10 to 15 months salaries. Do we call that a nation?”

He assured that Nigerians would smile again with the planned coalition of about 36 or 37 political parties in the country against the APC in the 2019 elections.

“We have started, we are on the right track. A coalition is coming forth. We call it CNN, a coalition for new Nigeria, where 36 or 37 political parties are coming together to form an amalgam. CNN is an amalgam and we are very young people trying to move this nation forward. I assure you by the time CNN comes on board by 2019, we are taking over power from APC.” he noted.
