Ogun ADC to commence primaries on Wednesday

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Ogun State, is set to begin the primaries for various elective positions at the federal and state levels on Wednesday across the 236 wards in the state.

In a statement signed Dr. Gbolade Osinowo, ADC’s State Chairman, the party’s primary election will begin with the Governorship and House of Assembly, which is scheduled to hold on October 3, to be followed by the National Assembly on October 4th and the President on October 6, 2018.

Dr. Osinowo stated that the party concluded the screening exercise for the aspirants competing for the various positions on Tuesday.

He said, “The primaries will be conducted in constituencies across Ogun State. I assure all electorate and stakeholders that the adopted system and the result of our primaries will be different from what is obtainable in other political parties, where dictatorship is the order of the day.

“In ADC, democracy is supreme as we uphold internal democracy. The people will decide their preferred candidates. Though, we encourage our aspirants to meet and consider consensus but they must all agree and sign to that effect. Wherever one of the aspirants is displeased with the consensus, we will embark on primary election.”

According to him, the party had adopted direct primary system where all card carrying members will vote for the aspirants of their choice and votes would be counted openly and loudly by the electoral officers.

Osinowo said, “Our party, through its new Handshake across Nigeria initiative, is set to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state. That is why ADC is declaring war on poverty. Our rallying cry is from poverty to prosperity.

“We will ensure our candidates put smiles on the people’s faces. Ogun State is a pace setter state and we are noted for being first in everything. But that has not been the story in the last eight years .But by the grace of God, we are going to be back. We are going to make sure, through our candidates, that our proximity to Lagos state is maximised and not just to a family, few people in the village, but every citizen of Ogun State.”
