Olufunwa set for farewell bid to Liverpool

The Southampton-reared central defender Oludare Olufunwa is set to embark on a new chapter in his career after his contract with the Reds runs out on June 30, 2023.

Olufunwa is not lacking suitors with Football League and Scottish Premiership clubs are reportedly interested in his signature.

The Anglo-Nigerian defender is drawing interest from Championship newcomers Plymouth Argyle, League One side Bristol Rovers, Scottish Premiership duo of St Mirren and Kilmarnock.

Olufunwa completed a celebrated move to Liverpool in August 2022 following a successful trial.

He was plagued by injuries during his time at Liverpool, which limited his appearances to ten matches in all competitions for the development squad, comprising four games in the Premier League 2, two in the Papa Johns Trophy and four in the Premier League International Cup.

Before his move to Anfield, he was on the books of hometown club Southampton for twelve years, joining them in 2010 before he was released in the summer of 2022.

Olufunwa has cited former Southampton central defender Virgil Van Dijk as his role model.
