No fewer than 20 students are expected to benefit from the Ooni Adeyeye Eniitan Ogunwusi N50million scholarship award for indigent secondary school students as part of the Ojaja Education Initiatives.
Addressing journalists on Thursday at his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Oba Ogunwusi expressed his commitment to the education of the young ones, especially the less privileged in the society.
The monarch noted that the scholarship award was a part of the numerous programmes compressed into the initiative aimed at developing skills and academic prowess of children and youths.
Also speaking, the Ojaja Education Initiative Programme Director, Mr. Olojede Ayobami, disclosed that the foremost traditional ruler felt the need to get engaged in providing access to quality education to less privileged and vulnerable children from lower socio-economic background.
According to him, the N50million scholarship award was aimed at not only assisting the less privileged citizens of the South West, but to promote unity and good relationship among secondary school students and South West people in general.
The director explained that participants must be in SS3 of any government-owned secondary school in the South West to be eligible for the award, adding that the free registration online would commence in January.
The competition expected to be held in phases, involve registration online in the six Southwest states, physical qualification where the best five competitors will emerge from each state and the final phase will produce the 20 scholarship winners.
Ayobami disclosed that the competition that will be digital based quiz would focus on testing students’ intelligence, speed, power of focus and it involves tests in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, English, Accounts, Economics, Government, Mathematics and Current Affairs.
