Police arraign man for receiving N1.2m stolen live fowls in Osun

The police in Osun State on Thursday dragged a 46-year-old man, Oyelami Tajudeen, before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly receiving stolen live fowls.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Adegoke, told the court that the stolen fowls received by the accused were valued at N1.2million.

He said Tajudeen committed the offence within a spate of three months, arguing that the offence contravened Section 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, volume II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.

The charge sheet obtained in court partly reads: “That you, Oyelami Tajudeen, sometimes around May, June and July, 2016 in Erin-Osun Osogbo in Osogbo Magisterial District did receive stolen fowls valued at N1.2million from one Elizabeth Akira, also known as ‘Iya Eli’, knowing full well to have been stolen property of one Mrs. Aluko Titilayo.”

The accused pleaded not guilty to the one-count slammed on him.
His counsel, O. Bayo, prayed the court to grant him bail, stressing that there were responsible sureties to stand for him.

Presiding Magistrate Fatimoh Sodamade granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

The magistrate added that the surety must possess and present to the court evidence of 3 years tax clearance.

She adjourned the case to September 13, 2016 for hearing.
