A combined team of security operatives has reportedly crushed a notorious human trafficking ring that specialises in ferrying victims to Libya through the Kano-Katsina land borders with neighbouring Niger Republic.

The leader of the gang, Nurudeen Sani, a resident of Bachirawa Quarters, was reportedly arrested in Kano by security operatives during an early morning raid in the neighbourhood last weekend.

An impeccable security source, who confided in The Point, said that “Nurudeen is in our net; he was arrested in his abode at Bachirawa Quarters in Dala Local Government Area of the state. We are trailing other members of the gang who are at large.

“The suspect is notorious for receiving and accommodating his victims who are usually young women and men from the southern part of Nigeria.

“Once they arrive in Kano, under his coordination, they would be prepared for onward transportation to Niger Republic from where they travel to Libya, in North Africa.”

Our correspondent gathered that the suspected ring leader was apprehended following the intelligence gathered from credible sources which culminated in an operation carried out by a team of security operatives drawn from the Kano State Police Command, NSCDC, DSS, HISBAH and NAPTIP.

In addition, The Point gathered that the victims that were rescued during the raid were being rehabilitated at the NAPTIP Zonal Command in Kano.
