A Shariah court sitting in Kano has ordered one Halifa Abdullahi to sweep the largest central mosque in the city for 30 days as a punishment for stealing.

The police told the court that Abdulllahi stole eight copies of the Holy Quran from the premises of a central mosque in Kano.

Police prosecutor, Abdul Wada, stated that the defendant broke into the premises of the mosque located at Tudun Maliki Quarters within the Kano metropolis recently.

He added that the accused person was arrested by members of the neighbourhood watch who kept vigil in the community while trying to escape with the stolen items.

Abdullahi confessed to the allegations leveled against him. He prayed the court for leniency, saying, “it is the devil that lured me to commit the offence.”

In his judgement, Khadi Bello Musa ordered the accused person to carry out 30-day cleaning exercise at Fagge Central Mosque, the largest mosque in the state.
