Truck crushes Okada passenger’s legs

Tragedy struck recently at the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos when a truck fell on a passenger on a commercial motorcycle, popular called Okada.

The incident occurred along the ever busy Kosoko Road, Ojodu Berger, which was under construction.

An eyewitness said that the truck crushed the victims’ legs, resulting in his becoming unconscious.

It was learnt that the victim later regained consciousness after passersby came to his aid.

A resident of the area, Mrs. Adebayo Tomiloba, who was at the accident scene, said the man, who was simply identified as Baba Janet, would have escaped the tragedy, but for other motorcycles that blocked his passage.

“It’s pathetic. I don’t think he can use his legs to walk again because the machine had crushed them. When he regained consciousness, he was calling for help while his trousers were soaked with his blood. It took people with courage before they could put him in a car for emergency treatment in hospital,” he said.

It was also learnt that the victim was identified by a woman, who claimed to be his neighbour.

Another resident of the area, who simply identified himself as Wale, said another passerby also sustained an injury while trying to save the victim.

“Another man also sustained an injury in the accident. The man has been rushed to the hospital. He tried to push the machine away with his hand, but in the process, his two fingers were chopped off immediately. His hands were full of blood when he was taken away on Okada,” he said.

Meanwhile, the victim’s neighbours claimed that Baba Jane’s wife just gave birth to a baby boy a few days ago.

Some of the residents also lamented that the contractor renovating the road could have totally blocked the road for safety purpose.

But one of the workers on duty, who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said, “We had tried to block the road for safety purpose, but the commercial bus drivers will always come here to fight us. That is why we decided to open a side for them.”
