A middle-aged man whose identity cannot be ascertained but said to be a family man with five children may have gone mad after allegedly embarking on
14 days dry fasting.
He was said to be returning from a church where he allegedly carried out the fasting and praying when he starting behaving abnormally.
Eyes witnesses said he demanded for a plate of fufu and meat but started making incoherent statements, saying “he wants to take his life.”
Several efforts by sympathisers to make the man go home were resisted as he rushed to lie down on the busy Upper Sokponba road, in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

He simply advised sympathisers to allow the man rest and eat.
A former member of the church who pleaded anonymity said she left the church because of the manners members were allegedly being subjected to hunger in the name of fasting.

As the time of filing this report, the pastor had taken the man away to an unknown
destination.
