Why I won’t act nude in any movie – Angela Okorie

As far as Nollywood star, Angela Okorie, is concerned, an actress does not need to take up a nude role in movies to become a star.

Angela’s position is underscored by her religious background and her mother’s insistence on strict observance of the dictates of her religion regarding nudity.

The Cotonou, Republic of Benin-born and bred actress further says, “I am grateful for my acting career, though it was not easy for me when I started out because my mother was not comfortable with my acting on religious grounds. Despite my insistence on acting, I had it in my mind that I wouldn’t act nude, regardless of the fee. Even my role models in the Nigerian movie industry like Genevieve Nnaji didn’t need to go unclad to become stars.”

Going down memory lane regarding her career, the delectable actress says, “I ventured into Nollywood in 2009, after a decade in modelling for a soap company. My first movie was Sincerity, in 2009. The film was produced and directed by Stanley Egbonini and Ifeanyi Ogbonna, respectively, and starred Chigozie Atuanya, Nonso Diobii, Yemi Blaq and Oge Okoye. I was brought into the limelight, after I starred in the movie entitled “Holy Serpent.”

Angela, who reveals her plans to go into film production, says she also has the desire to record gospel music in the future.

“I have written numerous songs and will release my album soon. Music is something that has always been a part of me,” she says.

The theatre arts graduate, who also attended the Lagos State University to study public administration, hails from Ishiagu-Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. In 2014, she was described as one of the “most sought after actresses in Nollywood, as well as a popular actress that interprets roles with ease.”

In January 2014, she was documented to have acted in more than 80 film productions. Okorie has done well for herself in the movie industry as she has won several awards. In 2015, she won the City People Entertainment Award for the “Best Supporting Actress” in an English film.

She has acted in more than 100 films since 2009. She also won AFRIFIMO awards for the Best Actress of 2015 year.
