Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, foremost businessman and elder statesman, Aminu Dantata and late Stella Ameyo Adadevoh (who died in August 2014, fighting Ebola spread), have been conferred honorary fellowship by the National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria located in Lagos.

This was contained in statement signed by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Publicity, Lanre Obadiah.

The fellowships, presented at the 39th convocation ceremony of the college, held on Wednesday with physical and virtual attendance, were in recognition of contributions made by the recipients to societies in Nigeria.

Zulum’s fellowship was received by Borno State Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur, who led a small delegation to the convocation while Zulum addressed participants virtually.

The governor was one of the five recipients of the Fellowship from northern Nigeria.

While speaking on behalf of Dantata and Adadevoh, Zulum appreciated the National Post Graduate Medical College for huge contributions to the Nigerian health sector and for recognition to the recipients of the college’s fellowship.

The governor said Borno State government will partner with the college to enhance healthcare service in the state and appealed to the resident doctors to call off their strike for the sake of humanity.

He promised to work closely with the National Postgraduate Medical College with a desire to sustaining the quality of the health sector.

Minister of State for Health, Adeleke Mamora, lauded the college for its training programmes aimed at repositioning the health sector with skill and quality of doctors.

Earlier, president of the college, Musa Muhammad Borodo, said the 39th edition of the convocation was being held both physically and virtually due to COVID-19 safety protocols.

The college has, since its establishment in 1979, produced 7000 fellowships by examination in various specialties in Medicine and Dentistry, while 309 are graduating at the 39th convocation ceremony.

There were goodwill messages from Medical Colleges in Ghana, Liberia, the National Medical and Dentist Council among others.

Borno Deputy Governor attended the convocation alongside Senator Abubakar Kyari, Speaker Borno State House of Assembly, the Chief of Staff, Commissioners of Health and Information, Vice Chancellors of University of Maiduguri and Borno State University.
