Court remands 15 cultists over robbery attempt in Osun

 

An Osogbo Chief Magistrate court has remanded 15 suspected cultists in prison custody over alleged attempt to rob citizens of Osun state.

The accused persons include Taiwo Adebisi, 29; Ganiyu Taiwo, 29; Aliyu Shared, 35; Ahmed Laws, 22; Gabiyu Sodiq, 18; Olorunkemi Samson, 16 and Abdul Kareem Lekan, 16.

Others are Waheed Hammed, 18; Adebayo Abiola, 22; Ahmed Oladosu, 16; Sefiu Kamoru, 19; Adebayo Rilwan, 16; Ayoola Yusuf, 17 ,;Hassan Toibu, 18 and Adebayo, 18.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Joshua Oladosu, told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on December 6, 2016 at about 11:30pm along Ede road in Osun State.

Oladosu said that the accused persons conspired and attempted to rob innocent motorists plying Ede-Osogbo road at night.

He said that the accused persons armed themselves with dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, knives, clubs with nails, axe, hammer, broken bottles and charms and attempted to rob motorists.

He said the offence contravened sections 1(1) and 2(1)(a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap. 11 vol. 14 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted robbery slammed on them.

Their counsels, Mr Bola Ige and Mrs Bose Adeyinka, prayed the court to grant their clients bail in the most liberal terms.

Magistrate Olusola Aluko denied them bail because of the nature of the allegation and ordered that they be kept behind bars in Ile-Ife prison.

He adjourned the matter to January 27, 2016 for mention.
