BY TIMOTHY AGBOR, OSOGBO

An Osogbo Chief Magistrate’s Court in Osun State has ordered that a 35-year-old man, Iwagbemi Fagbiye, be remanded in the correctional facility for allegedly assaulting his wife.

The Police arrested Fagbiye after his wife, Bamigbetan Oluwabimpe, visited one of its stations at Dada Estate with facial injuries, owing to the battery she received from her husband.

According to Police Prosecutor, ASP Fagboyinbo Abiodun, the incident happened in the evening of May 13, 2023, at the couple’s residence located at Onibueja area, Osogbo.

The victim was said to have been hospitalised after the beating and she had a swollen face with bruises on her lips and nose.

The one charge slammed against the defendant read, “That you Iwagbemi Fagbiye, on the 13th day of May, 2023 at about 5:00pm at Onibueja area, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Bamigbetan Oluwabimpe by beating her up to the extent she sustained injury on her body and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 355 of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.”

Fagbiye pleaded not guilty. Efforts made by his counsel, Najite Okobe, to secure his release on bail failed as Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara asked the lawyer to furnish the court with a written application. The defendant was remanded in Ilesa prison custody.
