My hubby prevents me from attending church vigils, gospel musician tells court

gospel musician, Dupe Emoruwa, has dragged her estranged husband, John Emoruwa, before a Customary Court sitting in Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State, for preventing her from attending vigils in church to showcase her talents.

The housewife in a suit numbered: C/108/18, accused her husband of insecurity, and always hindering her from going to church vigils because he thought she was having an extra-marital affair with one of the pastors.

The mother of three also told the court that she wanted to divorce her husband of 25 years based on a prophecy that she was “married to a wrong person”, and that if she continued to live under his roof, he might drop dead one day.

Dupe further said that she wanted to divorce her husband based his attitude of frequently fighting, fomenting trouble, threatening her life, provocation and giving her no rest of mind as well as preventing her from attending church vigils.

She told the court, “I want to divorce my husband because he does not allow me to go to church vigils to perform my music ministry; he even accused me of dating one of the pastors. I am tired of this marriage.

“I want this court to dissolve our marriage because I also heard a prophecy that I should leave him because I am married to a wrong person and if I don’t leave him, he may die and people might think I am the one that killed him.”

In his defence, the husband, who denied some of the allegations levelled against him by his wife, said that he stopped his wife from attending church vigils because he suspected that his wife was dating one of the pastors.

John, who told the court that he was satisfied with his wife’s decision to divorce him, said that his wife had made attempts to kill him through poisoning.

He urging the court to grant him the custody of their three children.

“My wife has tried poison me in different ways, because I suspect her frequent attendance of church vigils. One pastors has misled my wife that I am a wrong husband. She can go but she should not take any of my children along with her,” he said.

Testifying against her mother, the first child of the family, Blessing Emoruwa, told the court that their mother, Dupe was misled by a false prophecy to divorce their father.

She noted that her father supported their mother when she released two
albums.

The President of the court, Mrs. O. O. Sam-Obaleye, however, adjourned the case to November 7 for further hearing.
