One year on, Ruggedman, Ara, Omobaba, others remember Nomoreloss

Tuesday, March 21, made it a year since Olumuyiwa Osinuga, popularly known as Nomoreloss, passed on after a brief illness. And Omobaba, Ara Drummer Girl, Ruggedman, DJ Gosporella, Yaw, Alariwo, Nikki Laoye, Ill Bliss and other entertainers used the occasion to extol his virtues.

Ara Drummer Girl told The Point that the vacuum Nomoreloss left couldn’t be filled by anyone, as he was very talented and a lively person.

She stated, “Even when he was down or something was wrong with him, he would rather keep it to himself. I still spoke with him few days to his death and he did not tell me he was in the hospital. I did not know anything. I only called to ask of my hard drive he collected. So, I was shocked when I heard he was dead.”

Ara still remembers how Nomoreloss would tease her while introducing her on stage. At Rodizzio in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, where he held a weekly show, he would tell the audience that he had married Ara, kissed her and did all sorts to her.

“While concluding, he would now say he did all those things in his dream. He would say funny things before he introduced me properly. I miss his jokes and selflessness,” Ara explained.

Ruggedman described his death as a reminder that everyone needed to live a good life because nobody knew tomorrow.

He stated, “I remember him for the impact he m a d e in my song, ‘Ehen,’ w h i c h opened up the Nigerian entrainment industry i n a way. He had a crazy sense of humour and was one of the most talented musicians to come out of Nigeria.” He insisted that his close friends had not forgotten him even if everyone did.

But, according to him, the situation of the country was not favourable for anyone to throw a party. Comedian, Omobaba, noted that apart from being his friend, they had strong synergy on stage and they did many things together.

“We had a live show on Saturdays, which I was always part of as my own way of supporting him. But when he died, we were not able to keep up with it. A lot of people still call me to know if we continued the show.

He has always been part of my day and I don’t think there is a day people do not ask me how I have been coping without Nomoreloss.”

He also maintained that Nomoreloss never discriminated and encouraged younger acts even when it was obvious he could not help them. “Even when we knew that the person coming on stage was not talented, he made us think otherwise. He tried to encourage everyone.

In the sight of Nomoreloss, everyone was talented.” In his remembrance, Omo Baba dedicated last Wednesday’s edition of his weekly show in Ikeja GRA to Nomoreloss, which was tagged ‘Nomoreloss Special.’

At the show, they took time out to play songs produced by Nomoreloss. For DJ Gosporella, Nomoreloss Live was an event they all looked forward to attending on Saturdays. He said many people had tried to do it after his sudden demise but “if it is not ogogoro, it cannot be ogogoro.”

He added, “You could call him anytime and he would answer you. He knew how to make fun of serious issues, which helped people to quickly move on. I am yet to overcome his death because I chat a lot with his younger brother.

“The entertainment industry forgets its own easily and it should not be so. Corporate organisations also need to remember talents and encourage them as well. Real talents do not exist anymore because they are not encouraged to come out.”
