Unijos Closure: Umahi orders evacuation of Ebonyi students

In a bid to ensure safety of Ebonyi State indigenes, studying at the University of Jos, Plateau State, the state government has authorised evacuation of stranded students from the institution.

The Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, made the plan known in a statement, signed by the state’s Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Uchenna Orji, which was released to newsmen in Abakaliki, on Monday.

He assured of his resolve to ensure the safety of all Ebonyi citizens, irrespective of which part of Nigeria they might be residing.

The statement read, in part, “Government officials have been dispatched to the institution to ensure safe return of the affected students with immediate effect. We hope that the situation will abate to enable the students resume their studies.”

“Following the violent disturbances that led to the closure of the University of Jos, Plateau State, the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi FNSE, FNATE, (Akubaraoha), has authorised the evacuation of the stranded students of Ebonyi State origin from the University.”

Recall that the Federal Government ordered the closure of the University of Jos, following the eruption of civil disturbances in the school.
